Responding to students essay

Responding to student’s essay can be a burden if you don’t know how to do it. If you are too nice maybe the students will not be aware of their mistakes next time but if you are too cruel students will feel down and eventually students won’t have the encouragement to finish their work. To be honest the students essay was quite hard to read but still I can understand what is the student are trying to say.

When it comes to respond to the student essay I need to decide what method should I use to gives respond. Now I know how hard it is to mark students essay and how difficult to respond to their essay. In order to respond to the student essay I would use the method which is I will call the student to meet me face to face so that I can talk straight away to him or her. When it comes to give respond to a lot of students I will call students in group which are doing the same mistakes in their essay and then I will comment them as a group and not by individual.   

Task 10

Write an article on the topic integrating technology in teaching writing. It can be anything related to the slides, own opinion. How you would use it in future.

      The development of technology nowadays had change the teaching pattern of school in Malaysia. Technology can be a lot of different things such as mobile phone, computer, web base tool and Internet. We have to realize that integrating technology in writing is the best way to teach students nowadays. Computer or laptop are must have things for students nowadays and Internet connection are vital for students. Other than that technology manage students to be more creative in finishing their work and not to mention technology also motivate students.

Without laptop students cannot finish their work and do research regarding their assignments. Students who study in university are required to submit their assignment in form of typed on papers and not hand write assignment, that is why I said that laptop are must have thing for students nowadays, for them laptop are their soul and they can’t live without it. Early in the article I had mention that Internet connection are vital for students, this is because Internet is the place where students can get information for their assignments other than reading books in library.

When it comes to do their assignments students tends to be more creative because of the technology that we have today. There are times where students can show their creativity when doing a presentation. Besides students, teachers and lecturers also becomes more creative when teaching their students. This is because teachers and lecturers can add in visual ad to their presentation so that students will not feel boring when it comes to study about writing. Other than that videos and songs also can help students to learn writing. Videos and songs are the most useful things to add in because students sometimes are stress out with their work so in order to teach students in relax condition these things should be include in the lesson.

Motivating students to learn writing is not impossible when you know the techniques. For example social networks are things that can be use to teach and learn writing. For instance when it comes to do a writing lesson teachers can simply use “Facebook” “Twitter”or “Blog” to start a writing lesson. Teachers just have to put up a question on their social networks wall and let the students answer the question straight away and they don’t have to wait for class to teach the students. With this method students are able to give lots of idea because the process does not involved face to face interaction.

As a conclusion integrating technology in writing lesson really does help students to learn writing. Other than that technology help students to be more creative and motivated them in learning writing.                   

Task 9

Assessing student's essay

 "The Essay"

     As a future teachers we are ask to assess this student's essay and to be honest it is quite difficult to be a teacher and how I wonder a teacher can mark all of the student's essays in just a few days, it takes effort to do that. Continue with the essay, we decided to give this student 10 out of 20. Although there are lot of grammar mistakes and spelling errors still we can understand what is the student are trying to say in his or her essay. There are some good vocabulary that are used in the essay and it shows that the student are really trying to do the best for his or her essay. All in all we decided to gave the student 10 out of 20  which is enough for the student to pass.

Task 8

Question 1

Construct two instructions for two activities regarding the map shown.

1. Your friends car have been stolen while she was shopping at the Wisma Merdeka and now she wants you to text her the direction on how to go to the Police Station. Your essay must be at least 180 words. The direction must start from Wisma Merdeka.

2. You are a student from peninsular Malaysia which is studying in Kota Kinabalu. Your friend from your hometown asks you to write a letter about the places that you have visit in Kota Kinabalu. You must only write the places stated on the map. Your letter must be not more than 180 words.

Question 2

You are teaching the theme “Environment” to a form three class with intermediate level of proficiency. Describe one activity on how to integrate the following thinking skills into your lesson.

a)analysis

b)application

My title for the activity will be "Care for the environment"

           In order to teach my students about environment, I will show my students some pictures of our environment that have been polluted, after that students will have to point out some ways on how to manage our environment and ways to reduce and stop the pollution.   

Task 7

Experience the Haiti earthquake

 The game itself said that it is not a game. 

You can choose to be the survivor, journalist or aid worker. 

From my point of view the game was design to help us to get ready when any catastrophe strikes. Based on the game that I had play it is really exciting and it makes you feel like you are the one who is experiencing the tragedy. For me the game can help students learn English and it can teach students to write in English. As a beginner students in writing the game will help the students a lot, as we can see the game provides pictures, videos and sound, this can make students feel like they are watching a movie and at the same they are learning. For intermediate students this game can help them in strengthen their vocabulary and grammar because of the word choice in the game. Advanced students sometimes can easily get boring when it comes to do some work, so the game is the solution for the problem because it’s a game and at the same time they learn to solve things and to decide to do things in the game. The only problem regarding this game is it needs a good Internet connection because of the videos and sound from the game.        

Task 6

Thinking skill- synthesis

This is the task for higher order thinking skill which is student’s have to synthesis the task that will be given to them. The synthesis cognitive level includes the verb that is rewrite. The activity that the students have to do is to rewrite a story of a movie.

In my activity I will give my student’s a list of some of the movies that are suitable for my student’s and then they will have to rewrite the ending of the movie that they have chosen.

For example:

In the movie of Cinderella, Cinderella accidently left her glass slipper in the ball, so if students have chosen this movie they must change the incident to another thing, for example she left her necklace or she didn’t left anything.  After that students must finish the story with a new ending.

Causes of motor vehicle accidents.

Every year the number of motor vehicles are increasing, based from the JPJ statistic on 2011 the number of registered vehicle in Malaysia has passed 21.25 million units an increase of 11.78% compare to 2009 which are only 19.01 million units, simultaneously the increasing of motor vehicle increase the number of motor vehicle accidents, no matter how carefull someone is in driving  there are always some driver that causes an accident. There are some causes that involved motor vehicle accidents which are driving under the influence of alcohol,operating a mobile phone while driving and poor vehicles maintenance.

Using social networking tools to teach?

Using social networking tools to teach student to write in English, it is effective?. We know that social networking tools such as facebook,twitter, and tumbler is something that teenagers nowadays must have, this thing have been so familiar to them. What if we use this social networking tools to teach them to write in English. There is a lot of benefits and negative feedback using this social networking tools. Advantages of using this thing can be divided into creativity and stress level, for creativity student can have their freedom in writing anything they want, doesn’t matter what are they trying to write as long as there is someone who can correct their mistake in part of grammar and spelling. Trying to help each other in facebook will motivate this student because they will know what is right and what is wrong in writing. Other than that social network tolls can boost student cooperative and collaboration level because they are helping each other and trying to correct each other and simultaneously release stress in studying writing in English because there are no facial contact between student them self and student with their teacher, we know some student can be so shy when dealing something in front of their teacher but with the help of social networking tools  they will feel less stress. Other than that student don’t have to feel stress about time and place to access this network tools, there are no specific time to access this social network tools so student don’t have worry about it, place to access network is everywhere so student don’t have to be in one specific place to access network and learn English. Even though there are a lot of benefits in using social networking tools as a medium to learn writing in English there are still have some negative draw back, negative feedback can be divided into two, first is about vocabulary, using short form is largely spread so student use this short form in their chat and texting and this affect their English writing. Because of freedom in writing on facebook student forget about their grammar and spelling, we can see lots of incorrect grammar and spelling in their writing. One of the most common problem using network is distraction, social network such as facebook provided users to have games and other application, this thing makes student attracted to play and use the games and application. Eventhough there are lots of place to access network there are still some place which don’t have internet connection for example village and rural area. If they don’t have internet connection they can’t access their social networking tools and this will be difficult for them to study. As for me we still have to look on this three perspective which is student, teacher and parents,we have to ask for their consideration regarding to this program.

As for me social networking tools can be practical and sometimes not, its depends on the situation and place. Who knows maybe one day every single student must have facebook account in school so they can socializing while studying or maybe who knows someday facebook will be a burden for parents and teachers to teach students.

A lesson for us

Letter to the future me

Assalam. Hey man, it's been a rough time right, we both know about it we both face it together and I know what it's like  to deal with everything around you because we both know I am you.

Owh almost forgot, you wrote this letter on 15th of september 2012 5.58pm, yes I know it's quite a long time but feels like it was just yesterday. We forgot how fast the time chasing us, you are finally grown up man. I don't know how old are you at that time but in 2012 I am just 20 years old teenager, still young and have lot of things I have to learn, I bet you are smiling while reading this thing.

For now I don't know what have you achieve what have you done, I don't know that but everyday I will pray for you, I will pray so that you will be a successful guy like what you are at your time. During my time I had pass my upsr, pmr, spm, stpm and I just enter University Malaysia Sabah, I still have long way to go.

Remember sherman everyday might not be a good day for you but thank Allah you still can live and change every mistake you have done. It's not wrong to be wrong sometimes but it's wrong to be wrong all the time.

Don't forget to say thanks to everyone who helped you in your journey, most important is Allah, your parents, family,teachers,friends and last but not least yourself. Everyone around you can help you but its up to you to decide whether you are going to stand up and fight or let yourself fall to the ground. You have fall and you have stand and look what are you know. I'm proud of you sherman, I really am.
